Google is making some changes in video search… Today Google has quitely announced: “Google search results already include links to content that’s hosted on YouTube. Starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index: when you click on YouTube thumbnails, you will be taken to YouTube.com to experience the videos. Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where you can search for the world’s online video content…” You can read the blog post about the convergence of Google Video & YouTube on Google’s Blog.
I am glad to see this natural progression of video search… however there are still many missing pieces. First, you are only looking at 2 places for video: GoogleVideo & YouTube (that’s somewhat limiting). In fact the search results are still pretty limiting in the fact that you can only search for video and how they are determining relevance is interesting. You still have no way of finding the “best” videos. The algorythm that they are using to produce results is fairly basic.
They also do not allow you to share video channels in the way that you can with VideoSticky.com
More details as we get closer to launch. Regester for a beta invite at our home page.

We are making great progress on our site and will be ready to open the doors and let beta testers into the site in the not too distant future… If you want to see what all the fuss is about and get in the door before everyone else, go to our videosticky home page and register for a beta invite.
One we let users into the site you will see really cool stuff like how to search for videos from many video sites all at once, create really cool playlists that are sharable via a widget that you can drop into your blog or website.
We will be taking community to the next level and you will also be able to instantly see who else is into the same videos as you…. and if you have your own blog… (and who doesn’t these days?)…. you will instantly be able to see who is reading your blog… oh yea…. and so will all of your readers, this is really sweet.
And blog readers and video viewers will be able to see as many video sticky’s as you choose to share.
Plus some other really neat things that get us really stoked… so we think you will like them too.

There are several problems with video search, whether you are searching youtube, yahoo video, google video, etc… you are presented with videos that are only from THAT particluar service. There is no easy way to aggregate, compile and easily choose which video fits your desired requirements. You could go to each service individually and go through this time consuming process which is no fun at all and is a pain.
Or you could use videosticky to actually see all the results from the top video sharing services all in 1 place. That is 1 aspect of what we are doing. We are trying to streamline the user experience and the ability to find, share and connect with and around relevant video content and other viewers and blog readers. We will also allow users to easily save any video from the search and create a “Video Sticky” (playlist like) which can then be shared. There are also some issues around tag clouds for video content that allow better folksonomy choices and results for users.
Thats all for now…. we need to get back to the programming and building the most helpful video site possible.

Closing the loop between publishers (videos & blogs & websites) and thier reader/viewer audience is one of our major goals. Allowing like minded individuals to connect and have self forming communities based upon content (websites, themes, blogs, videos, etc.) is something that we find exciting. It puts a face to a reader or viewer, and it allows them to create deeper connections to the content, publisher and community.
Video is another way that people share information and is a big part of what we are building (hence the name VideoSticky) but is is much more than a video site. We think that allowing people the freedom to create communities around content (blogs, videos, etc.) has a very high gravitational pull… sorry I sounded just a bit geeky there… Actually it is very cool to just connect and expand your universe and discover meaningful and engaging content in a way that is not now currently possible online.
Publishers will be able to close the loop with blog readers and video viewers and be the focal point for making those connections with their own community on VideoSticky.com We don’t want to tell much more specifics until we are closer to launch.
Give us a shout and let us know your thoughts.
Thanks

In the old days people would gather around the watercooler and talk about the latest episode of Sienfeld or 90210 or some other popular TV program and discuss the show. Well we are now living in a splintered world where mega hits like the ones mentioned are not nearly as important and people consume video online and the latest form of entertainment is user generated media in the form of video. YouTube, Myspace, Yahoo Video, Google video… this is where the content gets distributed from… but there is no watercooler megahit to discuss online and the people you want to discuss it with might not work with you… this is a problem.
So we thought that we would build a community where you could actually get to know like minded video viewers on virtually unlimited subjects and watch videos that are of interest to you…built by you… and shared by you…
We have been programming like crazy to get this service live very soon…Building a community that the users own is no easy task. You really need to give the tools to the users and let them make it their own. Let them have ownership and input to how the site works and what they like and want. Could a community around playlists and videos exist? Would users want to see and connect with other viewers of the same video…??? We think so… Share your thoughts with us… and help us build the best community possible.

Video sharing sites such us youtube, google video, yahoo video, revver, etc. have a major problem: they are great for primarily 2 things: hosting videos and allowing exposure to a vast audience. The problem is that you can never find what you want on these sites. Sure there are the high volume viral video hits hits like the coke and mentos videos and lonelygirl… but beyond that it is very difficult to find meaningful content that meets my desire.
What if i wanted a video channel on a specific topic and there were good videos on several video services… how do i mix these into a playlist? ummm you can’t. That is 1 of the problems that we will be addressing at videosticky.com
Also, there really is not a community at Youtube. it is just a mass swarm of video content and viewers with no connections to video’s or to other viewers.
Tell us what other problems you see with online video sharing… we are listening.

Here is one of the major problems with online video sites such as Youtube, Google Video or Yahoo video: Too much information…. data fricking overload, too many videos, too many different online video sharing sites, video service silos, and no clean way to structure and organize all of the online video content. With about 100,000 new videos coming online every day the problem is only going to get worse.
So we decided the smart thing to do was let the same world that created these videos to organize them… Sound confusing… it is not. We are building what we hope is an elegant solution to organizing the deluge of video data that is falling on our heads. We are not going to organize video, the user community will do it. It will make more sense when we get some more info out to the readers of the blog… Screenshots coming soon…
Plus we want the readers to offer us their suggestions on how we can build this solution and what features that they think are important. This will help us to build the best possible solution. Built by the users, for the users… please leave your comments, ideas and thoughts about online videos and what you think is missing for organizing and connecting users/content/community…
Thanks… The VideoSticky Team

There are many Social video sharing sites. But guess what they are all missing? A way for users (you) to create and share a playlist from multiple services (service agnostic) and share and build a community around those videos. Hmmm sounds like there is a need for that. That is one of the video sharing issues that we are working on.
These video sites all have their pro’s and con’s. But if you are just trying to get your head around the range of video services you need to check out this great blog post from DVGuru.com “10 video sharing services reviewed”. Thanks to Ryan and the team at DVGuru.com for their great content.
There are 2 major omissions from this list. Yahoo Video (major traffic and easy to use) & Veoh.com (Veoh is a fast mover and player in this space). We really like their service offering and they have fairly good traffic. Easy to use video upload, cool players and fairly good content.

Ever since YouTube went mainstream online video has surged. About 80,000 new videos are added to YouTube every day. Add all the other video sites such as Google Video, Yahoo Video, AOL Video, iFilm and Veoh and the number of new videos that appear online is close to double that number.
The numbers just keep growing at an exponential rate. Look at this information from emarketer that outlines video consumption audience online. It looks like in 2006 there were over 107 million online video viewers. And that number is on the rise.
How do you seperate the good videos from the bad, the stuff that matters, videos by subject, find like minded viewers, ect.? Umm… that is a real challenge and we are looking to make a difference in that area. VideoSticky will be addressing these issues around online video with our new service.
More details soon. Back to the programming…
